Honestly same here.... I was hoping for a non-binary person who accepts themself at the end and they date the girl or the boy after they realises their true self... I'm a little bit disappointed that the manga makes it necessary for one girl and one boy in a relationship. As a pansexual, if a girl told me to be a boy for her, I would be absolutely heartbroken.
Here I thought I was going to get a revolutionary manga about non-binary gender identity. I thought of writing a book with the premise myself, but he person would choose to be non-binary and genderless at the end. But boy am I pissed with this. It looks like another one of those You Can Only Like the Opposite Sex genderbenders. These teens acting like sexual orientation is influenced by gender identity. I do like that Hinase is canon asexual. But these stories always end up encouraging heteronormativity. When the girl corrected herself and said she didn't care about gender, I was like, "Choose her!" But then she retracted her statement because she didn't want to lose?? That punk ass Shiori, wtf is his problem? So fucking selfish and forceful. He's so toxic. The only way I can forgive Shiori is if he's gay and has internalized homophobia and wants to be "normal" and that's why he's so insistent on Hinase becoming a girl. Still selfish, but at least there's some depth.
In any case, I'll wait until this is complete and find out what happened. My hope is that Hinase says fxxx y'all and lives their truth, becoming an old genderless person who defeats all odds.
