The person in the flashback in chapter 54 was Chang. His half brother died in an accident with his parents.
theyre not related at all! ed is korean and chang is chinese. they were neighbours. when chang’s family (the brother who died was a stepbrother) died, chang’s grandma was grieving, and ed looked similar to the dead brother. ed was lonely as a kid, so he mimicked the dead brother, and let changs grandma call him by the dead brothers name (xiaoling). so ed and chang related by blood. hope that helped!!
