The story never said the dragons live forever. Even if he did he would still have their children.
of course he will love her for the rest of his life. he will continue to do so after she passes away and will continue to do so even after he finds another lover(if he does). you can love someone who has passed away but still move on
But like... what about when she dies. I feel like it'll end up like those other historical fantasy shoujo where the male lead has a past lover whom he adored but then a new girl shows up and captures his heart... and so forth.
Cuz like, what? Is he really just going to go on loving Hibana for the rest of his life? What's he going to do? Protect the next kings and queens, the ancestors of Hibana? He will eventually come to love someone new as well
