the reason why this just all feels so wrong is that ok yes i understand u need a grand proposal to cease rumors but its definitely not like this is the only option she has for everyone to know he's in love with her? theres so many other webtoons where the ml just acts very uncharacteristically fond and loving with the fl and then the rumors about her brainwashing him die down (even the webtoons where the ml IS ACTUALLY under a spell to be super loving with the fl, no one fucking thinks the fl manipulated him). also right now she's basically brainwashing him anyway into making him feel super panicked about her feelings and pushing him into this big proposal thing? like alright u can have a public and private love life if u need to but why is she acting like her answer is based off how much money he spends proposing to her instead of maybe COMMUNICATING DIRECTLY her worries and feelings instead of emotionally manipulating him into doing this? currently it feels like she's just using elias in her master plan, which would be fine if she didn't love him, but aren't they supposed to be starting a LIFE TOGETHER? as EQUALS? it just feels wrong that this is how their marriage is starting.

She did communicate her feelings to him, she directly told him she loves him. He told her he's unsure twice. It's not JUST the political/erasing rumors thing, it's also that she wants him to chase her a bit.

a person could only get away with the way she's acting in a manga/webtoon setting... he was unsure bc it was his first time falling in love and he had no experience with women before.. does she want him to lie? why is it ok to pressure someone to "confess" their feelings when everyone develops feelings at a different rate and the normal thing to do is wait for the other person until they're ready? and no matter what he's said to her, this entire time she's never really had a doubt that he didn't love her, she's just setting everything up so that WHEN he proposes, there will be a lot of political impact. she never even considered the possibility that he wouldnt chase after her and that he wouldn't propose, so really it's all just a game to her. she wants him to chase her so she doesn't feel "easily won", while this entire time he hasn't had that much to think about his own emotions because he's been busy trying to keep the both of them alive and wanted to tell her his feelings as soon as the entire thing ended anyway, only to find her gone and acting like she's over him. it just seems incredibly selfish on her part. the latest chapter of As You Wish, Prince also updated today with a marriage proposal, and honestly i just think that's what a real proposal should look like. if you need to put on a show for the public fine, but confirming both your feelings shouldn't have to be an elaborate game where one person knows it's mutual and is hanging the possibility of rejection over the other person's head

The setting is high society, yes, it's different to modern society and her stunt has political context. You're determined to not understand her at all so I'll go.

ive already said that i understand what she's doing within the context... it's a political move to help establish her position in society. i just don't think it's necessary to act like this and play a game with someone who she's supposed to be marrying for love... there's plenty of other noble/high society webtoons where the female lead didn't have to go to these extents to be with a prince/duke...we can agree to disagree :)

She understands Adele dude... the point is Adele didn’t have to manipulate the duke in order to get him to propose. they are a COUPLE. they are two people in a relationship who have the ability to talk to each other and COMMUNICATE. She knew he was uncomfortable with love but continued to pressure him to suit her needs. If she had a mature level headed conversation instead of leading him around on a wild goose chase, an understanding would have been reached BECAUSE SHE KNOWS THAT HE LOVES HER. She knew his true feelings the entire fucking time but still decided gaslighting would be the best option. If she still needed to take a break from the relationship, that would have been fine too. All she needed to do was say something, for the love of god. Everyone here recognizes Adele’s reasoning as important but it could simply be summarized as, “the ends don’t justify the means”. Her reasoning was solid but her methods are abhorrent.

Yeah I understood what they were saying and all this^ is why I said they aren't willing to understand her... you talk about "communication like the prince has done ANY of it and like it hasn't been Adele that has initiated ALL of it. They've talked about their feelings twice now and the first time she told him he could answer her later. Both times they talked he continued to say he was unsure. It's so blatantly obvious he loves her that even she knows. EVERYONE around him knows... everyone's been trying to sort of gently scoot him towards realization with little tips, but he's been dense. Well, after all this time they're reaching a critical moment, Adele sees that if they're going to be together then the rumors need cleared up NOW. She also knows they're GOING to be together because she already knows he loves her, so after being hurt TWICE she decides to make him chase her a bit since being gentle is keeping him uncertain. Clearly he needed a sense of urgency to clarify things for him since, not only did it work, it also made him introspective about OTHER things like how he treats people close to him, like the prince. If this doesn't clear up why I said that to them and why everything you said as above is wrong, it's because you've got tinted glasses on. Adele is the one who's dealt with everything, the sympathy for the prince makes sense, but only until you look at the context and realize HE'S put ADELE through everything and Adele has already tried giving him time and space to realize on his own.

I'm not talking about the politics, I'm talking about the REST of the story where it's actually ONLY Adele who does ANY communicating, making your argument kinda null. You're acting as though she didn't ALREADY account for the duke's social awkwardness and give him space to think when she actually did the first time they talked about their feelings. She also put aside that the duke was basically asking her "let's make the engagement real because I MIGHT love you and want you to stay by my side, whether I realize this is love or something else entirely"... he said that to a girl in love with him... then he gets jealous all the time, even acting on it at times. Nobody mentions that though, it's only bad if Adele, after being told "I'm not sure I love you" TWICE during both the conversations about their feelings that SHE initiated, despite already knowing he loves her and having to deal with his awkwardness over who knows how long it is between the first and second feelings talk and despite his outwardly visible jealousy. I really hate it when people ignore the context and say "agree to disagree" like their opinion isn't based on only a portion of what's there. Adele's the one who's had a full understanding of their feelings for awhile, suffering because of the duke's indecisiveness. Adele's the one who has done ALL the communication. Adele is the one who has been hurting the entire time while helping him. She chose to have him chase her a bit after a long time of being hurt, it's only even the minor motivation behind her political actions too, him chasing her is just a little plus for her with the goal being clearing the rumors.
