In the time before he went back. Canadium(can’t remember what it’s called) agreed that Jennis would be the new lord of the city. But although the old lord ran away, he is still technically the lord of that town. If the people want a different lord without the old one stepping down then it is seen as usurping, which is basically the high ranking people betraying the lord to establish a new leader. In the previous past, they were unable to win and the city was destroyed which caused Jennis to lose control when he returned from his training. Now MC needs to find a way to win against human troops for the incoming battle for independence.

I’m quite certain since canadium(?) is thriving and he is still the lord (in name only because he’s lost the trust of his people) of the city, so them appointing a new lord is the same as usurping, which will definitely cause some type of conflict.
