yeah you're right. the egg and the merman who died is probably just a plot device. maybe dont overanalyze and just enjoy and if u dont like it then dont. not every mc is perfect and have empathy. i would hella do the same thing and feel the same.

Have you thought about the poor baby mermaid he killed? When he found out that a mermaid will get hatched from the egg he doesn´t even feel remorse, he only thinks about how he can manage not to get punished for it.
In the first place, even though he is a pampered young master and quite confused about the situation, he saw that the eggs are important so at least not damaging it would have been all right. He was hungry......didn´t want to eat bugs......there were dozens of fruit laying around?????
