Not, this happen when a god fall in love (romantically), but HEIL doesn't explained this part for River not to discover his love for him

Yeah that's why I feel like you just need to start caring A LOT about that person (doesn't need to be romantic), and River was a god for 5 years and didn't talk to any human being so he is getting used to "positive" emotions again (because he did die bcs of a betrayal of a person he loved). Either that or the rule for Heils mind reading is that he need to just care about a person, and River needs to have romantic feelings for a person. Either way our boy Heil is special in Rivers mind.
River loves Forrest and he can read her
Heil doesn't have to be romantically in love to not be able to read their minds, he just has to care for them deeply...he cannot read any of the clandor ancestors' minds(except for Ilya who was made into a goblin).
We should not assume Heil and River's powers work the same. Maybe River's power doesn't work on gods at all.
The thing works like that, if you care about someone you can't feel their feelings, that's why river and heil can't feel each other's right?
But river can feel forests does that mean he doesn't truly care for his sister? I don't want that. ╥﹏╥
