My opinion is: potentially more babies in yaoi. It also hits home on the desire to have one fated person just for you in the entire universe.
It's omegaverse. I'm not a huge fan of ABO either, because it's kind of an excuse to place traditional gender roles onto gay couples (alphas are the controlling, possessive "man" while omegas are the meek, mild-mannered "woman) but I do find myself reading it sometimes whenever I'm just bored and have a lot of free time
Idk I like omega verse because I like the idea of same sex couples not being taboo and their relationship can be public
Omegaverse is an alternate universe where people have a secondary gender, which is the Alpha, the Beta, and the Omega. This creates a social hierarchy in the society because Alphas are seen to be more superior, Betas are the normal people that made up 80% of the population and the Omegas are the weakest and could bear a child even if you are born male.
It was first introduced in the Supernatural series (the wolves part) and was adopted by the Yaoi fandom.
Why is it well-liked? Well, that depends on most people. Some are into it because of the portrayal of domestic life, since Omegas can get pregnant with his mated Alpha. Others are there for the juicy stuff and the heated scenes, the THIRST of some people. Some are there for romance because this genre can get a lot of Angst.
It's fine if you're not into it, it's kinda way out there but if you still want to continue reading some, you can start with the soft ones rather than the heavy plotted ones. Things can get violent and disturbing in some Omegaverse.
