To start a conversation, it'd be best to find a small group of friends, or someone who shares the same interest as you? Like reading mangas, watching animes etc. It's easier to let the conversation flow that way.

Take your time, don’t rush things. Maybe get to know their interests and see if you both have a similarity and if so use that similarity for the conversation to sky rocket! I usually join servers in discord that are fandoms so I can basically relate to them, share information I highly recommend!
