It was an open ending, sprinkled with some bizarreness. Maybe the manga will capture the feel the author was going for, but I wasn't feeling it when I came out of the cinema.

I would say that Aoi fell in love with ghost of past Shinno, but he's still a ghost.

He's linked to the guitar strings of the abandoned guitar in the practice room, and my interpretion is that he is the embodiment of regret that Shinno cast aside before going to pursue his music career in Tokyo.

When 30yo Shinno comes back, he's made it, but as a lead guitarist to a (I've forgotten the genre) singer. He's not proud of it. But later on I think he puts aside his disappointment and confronts the older Aioi sister and then the ghost vanishes, but there's the extreme bizarre sequence b4 that. Have a good read.

I would say ghost Shinno doesn't reciprocate the feelings of Aoi, but Aoi still falls for him, even tho it's just a crush.
