I know they did it for the plot but I agree. Killing the mother was unnecessary, it didn't make much a difference if she was killed. I personally think it would have made a better story if the mother had gotten kidnapped and much more beneficial for the plot.
Right?? I really wish they left her so the mother daughter relationship could continue to progress. Kill the dad. I wouldn't have cared.
