I think that the issue is that he marked Hwa, but he doesn't want to tell him for Plot Reasons; therefore he'd rather explain away the scent as him being a female lycan than to explain the probably traumatic Plot Reasons that Hwa got his memories wiped and isn't supposed to be with him.
