I think the worst ones are those who used google translate to translate lmao. And those who have very, very poor grammar. It just makes it unreadable. Like please, before you decide to translate something, make sure you actually KNOW the language and also make sure your sentences are grammatically correct so I won't wanna gouge my eyes after reading it.
I'm not a really good translator but I never use google translate unless I really don't understand the sentence but even so I always fact check with my friends and such so yeah. Those are my thoughts as a translator.
Oh my god, yes. Yesterday I read a properly scanlated manga and in the credit they listed a Japanese PR and an English PR. I almost cried happy tears for appreciation. People seem to forget that PR is essential nowadays. I firmly believe that a half-assed translation only does the original work a disservice, and the so-called “translator” should be ashamed of themselves.
you see the thing is, some manga gets picked up by different translators halfway through with the reason tht the ori translator updates too slow or that it's been dropped, and usually if they don't take down what they've half assedly translated, it will just be there.
and i can't not read it because i love the manga i read, which i've bookmarked and there aren't any other websites where i can read it on. if the manga was dropped i would rather not get a notification stating that it's updated but with such half assedly translations tbh. but after i read it without knowing it's so half assed, the frustrations kicked in and i can't unread what i've read.
Also i would translate if i'm able to but i can't, i only know eng fluently. like bruh i can't speak other languages to save my life.
Ok so what do you guys think about translators who are not fluent in either language but still translated a manga?
IMO i honestly don't like the poor quality of translation where they think it's prolly alright for them to change the names of the characters whenever they see fit without explaining and leave me in confusion while reading the manga, which eventually turns into frustration.
then there are those who translate without making sense of the sentence?? if that makes sense? I sometimes wonder if you don't know what you're translating, why are you translating? do you understand what you're translating? have you tried making sense of what you've translated?
i mean thanks for your kindness but????
