Khaol was better in the novel. He didn't know how River died but he felt his connection with him disappear. Therefore he goes to Forrest and would constantly ask her if she has seen River. Soon, he gets too tired to search and just locks himself away at home. Forrest described Khaol as just skin and bones the last time she saw him. Kaveri was not mentioned at all here in the novel. Heil finds River through the thoughts of Forrest. Heil has been searching for him for 5 years but couldn't find a clue so he just "latched" onto Forrest's thoughts. Heil tells River that they are friends (JUST FRIENDS???) and that of course he would search for him all this time. River gets angry at Heil and tell him something like this, "if your friends suddenly goes missing for 5 years with no words, you should get the message". In short, he told Heil to GTFO. Heil then just says, "fine" and leaves. That's literally where the novel stops. idk how they gonna do all this in the comic but clearly its a bit different. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Yep, I was confused why the author took this road. I was still rooting for Khaol x River there since it looks like Khaol has fallen for River and devastated to learn River was gone BUT now, eff you Khaol. No way in hell your character will be salvaged *kill* *kill* *kill* worst male lead ever.
