in my opinion, this was multiple things..
1. it was his way of sacrificing himself in place of the omega. as she said, it could kill him. so the alpha would rather take it in place of the omega.
2. like he said, the omega said he could forever doubt him, so this was his way of showing that being an alpha wasn't influencing him, assuming he still cared for him when he wakes up
3. if he wakes up and is a beta, they've just made a 'so called' cure, with less fear of hurting the omega since the alpha didn't die
also sister being big dumb for not discussing this with her brother before giving it to alpha. I understand wanting to hide it until it's possible, but in the end I feel like he should be aware it's a possibility and make the decision for himself
I think he also always hated being an alpha similar to the way Ayase hated being an omega. People expected all this shit from him simply because he was an alpha
