My parents grew up in korea and apparently yea most of the teens there are like that. it's more because of the idea of respect to elders and that underclassmen need to call older people sunbaenim, which make older people think they're superior and they're allowed to do anything. but it really depends on the group of friends that you make in korea because not all of them are like that.
