Well whats to say he is attracted to her? I mean with the age gap he could see her a family member, a little sister or cousin.
We have no idea how this marraige was arranged or the circumstances regarding it. This arrangement could be good deal for her then him.
I would like to reserve judgement until we get all the facts.

I dislike that the relationship is portrayed as this cutesy romance story. The authors intent is to make the reader swoon over the interactions. You are saying, that this is ok, because this is how things were back in time. But is this really a historically accurate story of a child marriage? It seems more like a fantasy to me
Back then it would have been common to marry at a younger age in this situation she’s 12 and the males age is unknown but it’s safe to assume he’s much older. Doing some research I found that in 1916 the life expectancy was about 50 for both males and females so getting married early was to be expected (also making the husband between the ages of 20 to mid to late 30s). But it doesn’t really change the fact the it’s still slightly uncomfortable to read for some people (me included)(⊙…⊙ )
This will be very hypocritical of me, but I love how most of the comments are criticizing the age gap because it it between a 12 year-old and an adult. I understand that in this generation it is frowned upon, but it is literally just what happened back in those times. There is no ulterior motive supporting pedophilia (so far). This is a fictional work using situations that would/could have happened during that time period. A fictional work using fictional characters. I won't say don't express your opinions but it just gets boring to look into the comments after each episode stating how the relationship includes "pedophilia".
