Hey All, let's continue with part #4 of my summaries, next in line - ch 51 (a lengthy one, again.. ^^; ):
Ch 51 - Ed is sitting on the bench and thinking. He recalls one phrase from one of MQ's scripts about people needing to be happy (at the very least) - in order to have self-respect, self-pride and dignity. Ed summarizes that MQ hasn't called/texted and Ed himself is not rushing to be the first one to contact MQ (because of Ed's pride and self-respect - the two things he has left).
Ed opens a pack of Camel cigarettes (which has only one cigarette left in here) and recalls that this specific pack was bought to him by MQ last year - Ed had kept it as a fond memento all this time, however in the last few days he had no choice but to smoke these cigarettes because he is completely broke and cannot afford buying a new pack of cigarettes.
Ed recalls snippets from the day he and MQ fought, that after the onslaught of insults towards MQ Ed is now completely alone - as if MQ had never entered his life.
The scene changes to a storage facility where Ed is carrying boxes. Ed explains to the reader in his thoughts that because it is end of the year, it's shear chaos here and everyone is very busy. The reader is informed about the daily heavy workload because of the holiday season and that the workers get paid once a week. Ed has been working here for a month already and elaborates how physically taxing the job is, that he's dead tired. The one and only positive side of this type of work for Ed - he's so tired that he doesn't have enough strength or time left to think about anything else.
Lancer comes to visit Ed at his job and Ed reveals in his thoughts that it is the 4th time they're meeting in this last month. The 1st time Ed had tried to pretend he didn't know Lancer but in the end it was hard to ignore the person who was acting so friendly towards Ed.
Lancer asks Ed about his job and Ed responds that he has 10 days left to work there. Lancer then lightheartedly comments how Ed looks (not good) and how much his character has changed after the 'coming out'. In his thoughts Ed informs the reader that Lancer has left porn and works as a sales agent at Ebay as well as in the sphere of escort services, and that he's well seemingly off enough financially to be able to volunteer to pay for Ed's dinner.
Once outside Lancer asks Ed for a cigarette and Ed gives him that last one he had from the pack given by MQ. Lancer asks if Ed would have time on the 26th of December to meet with a friend of a real estate agent (from ch 9), who apparently wants to meet Ed so badly he begged for it. Lancer goes on to say that Ed's job contract is ending either way and that he's getting paid only 100$ per day, in the meantime if he were to go on a date with that man he'd get 1000$. Ed replies that he needs to think about it and Lancer walks away saying he's hoping for a positive answer and that he'll contact Ed.
Ed thinks about MQ and that MQ likely presumed this day would come (of Lancer offering Ed escort job) from that first day when MQ had advised Ed to turn off his phone (ch 25). Ed goes on thinking that even though MQ introduced Ed to the world of porn, he didn't want Ed to do escort job and that contradiction didn't make sense to Ed.
Ed also acknowledges that he hated MQ initially. All those revealing articles about Ed and that the whole world knows juicy details about him - he hated it all. Ed wished for MQ to be hurt like Ed had been, that MQ would be even in bigger pain than Ed was. At the same time Ed kept thinking about MQ's words.
Lancer sends Ed a text with time and place to have that mentioned date on 26/12.
Ed continues thinking that after he started hating MQ so much, the only thing that was left in Ed was the feeling of ugliness, how disgusting Ed himself has become. Even after Ed realized that such a scum was living inside of him and after MQ looked at him coldly/with disgust, Ed still couldn't do anything - turned out it was harder to apologize than confess love. Ed's not even able to try and find the courage - that it will likely continue to be so until Ed completely forgets MQ. Gripping his head at the sink Ed thinks he is acting like a true egoist who is only able to think about himself.
The scene changes to a room where Ryan and Ed are talking. Ryan comments that Ed looks like a dying patient, that he seems completely lost and broken. Ryan asks whether Ed and MQ really broke up without any hope of starting things anew and Ed replies 'that's how it turned out to be'.
Ryan goes on saying he had thought Ed would continue remaining oblivious and blinded by his love, that Ed was such a naive idiot that Ryan felt sorry just looking at him, that Ed was so unlucky to have crossed paths with MQ.
Ed replies that he was the one who hurt MQ first by calling him names and insulting him, and... that he felt relieved after. Ryan voices his surprise at Ed's actions - he didn't think Ed had it in him. Ryan switches the topic by asking what is Ed planning to do next, whether he has something in mind already.
Ed ponders what he would want to do and recalls his past: how he once pretended to be another boy wishing to receive love from a neighbor grandma, that later he wished to become an action film actor similar to Bruce Lee, and after that he met MQ and yearned to have him. Ed eventually responds all bitter: 'I just wish to die'.
At that moment Ed acknowledges internally that to his horror, he didn't realize just how tough this all would be for him, he had thought he would be able to deal with this and endure everything. Ed starts to silently cry and goes over his feelings internally: he wanted to die, he felt sorry and hateful, wished to see MQ but also wanted to keep away from him. Ed missed MQ incredibly, yet at the same time wanted to free his soul from all the oppression he was no longer able to endure; he wanted piece.
The scene changes to a fancy lounge area at a fancy oriental hotel (the one Lancer directed Ed to be on 26/12) where Ed is chatting with a client - lawyer Johnny. Besides trivialities the smitten guy comments that Ed looks skinnier than on screen, to which Ed replies that he had lost weight significantly. Johnny goes on complimenting Ed and Ed feels uncomfortable with that. Ed changes the subject asking whether Johnny is Chinese - the guy answers positively and that he predominantly works with Chinese people from Chinese district where everyone knows everyone.
Ed promptly thinks whether Johnny and Chang know each other and he gets tense at the mere idea. When Johnny asks the same question, Ed answer he's Korean.
Ed wants to wrap up the deal and return home as soon as possible, therefore he cuts to the chase - takes Johnny's hand and asks whether they should go to the room upstairs. Flustered Johnny didn't expect such speedy pace, yet manages to book a room nonetheless. As they go to the room Ed briefly wonders whether he will be able to get sexually aroused with such an ordinary man, but in the end decides that with the right stimulation he should be able to.
The chapter ends with Ed and Johnny being held up by Chang - he and his woman are walking to them from behind.
That's it for today. Another chapter tomorrow? :)
Thank you so much! You're summaries are amazing and they help me understand the chapters in more detail. Yes please, if you are able, may we he another chapter summary?
Hi All, let's continue with part #5 of my summaries, ch 52 is next in line:
Ch 52- The readers get to see two shots of Chang fucking his woman in a hotel bed before Chang recalls recent past [his recollections continue right where ch 51 ended]:
Chang asks Ed whether the guy is with him and Ed responds positively. Ed asks in return whether the woman next to Chang is his beloved, however Chang says he had bought her for money. Ed turns away and says 'that so, why don't you buy me then, too?' Chang grabs Ed by the shoulder and asks not to go. Chang also asks Ed why he had stopped coming to his office, then replies himself that it's even better this way - after all, it might cause misinterpretation - people might start thinking God knows what if the two of them were to sit alone in an office room, right?
Ed pushes Chang's hand away without turning back and says to wait for just a year - he will do his very best to return Chang's beloved money (aka debt) by selling his body. Chang taunts back what they should do now as Chang had been advised that this gentleman (pointing with a card to Johnny's nose) is to relinquish the room to him. Johnny is obviously flustered and Ed, irritated, asks Chang to stop his jokes.
Chang replies that he didn't have a clue that Ed liked gay married men. Chang then zeroes in on Johnny, who is immediately on alert/spooked: Chang says that apparently Johnny is loaded with money if he can afford to rent the priciest restaurant in Chinese district as well as arrange for dinner with such company. What if Johnny's wife found out that her husband is gay and has fun with male prostitutes, how would her face look like at that moment? Johnny is already shaking from fear at that point, while Chang drives on - none of it matters as Johnny is so rich that he, apparently, would easily pay alimony to her in case of divorce. Johnny panics, searches his pockets and at the same time mumbles brokenly that he and Ed didn't do anything yet. The next second he thrusts a wad of money into Chang's chest and hastily runs away.
Chang gives the money to Ed and says into his ear to take it and consider it a tip for selling his body. Leaning on Ed's shoulder Chang also thanks him - thanks to Ed he was able to save money on the hotel room.
The scene returns back to the present where Chang is passionately fucking his woman. The memory of Ed fresh in his mind, Chang internally mentions his Korean name twice. [My personal interpretation: the first time Chang says the name dreamily/softly, the second time - determined, as if he has made up his mind and has reached some decision]
The scene switches to Ed's POV where Ed is wearing a suit. Ed thinks to himself that the money from Johnny that Chang put into his pocket merely contains 471$. The deposit the man had transferred to Lancer in advance was 1050$, which means that even with the -10% commission to Lancer for being the middleman, Ed is left with ~1500$ - obtained virtually without any feelings of guilt and shame.
Ryan, reading a book on a sofa, notices that Ed is in official attire/suit again, he asks whether Ed is going to an interview. Ed thinks to himself that it's better to keep this a secret from Ryan. Ed vaguely replies 'something like that' and changes the topic by asking Ryan whether he is thinking to open his own business to sell stuff? [This is because the title of the book Ryan is reading is called 'How to open a shopping van on wheels'.] Ryan comments that it seems like one can't make a lot of money by selling food and he thought to try and read about this option, especially as it doesn't look like it would be very difficult to keep a van. Ryan goes on to say that he won't be able to film porn indefinitely and that his daughter is growing up... He's merely considering his options.
Ed leaves the house and goes to a fancy building thinking about his current situation: according to Lancer a lot of people want to meet Ed, so much that Lancer increased his price in a spirit of an auction. Looking around the spacious lobby Ed thinks that for the person who can afford live in such a place 5000$ (that Lancer has requested for Ed) is really nothing.
Ed rings the doorbell and is shocked to see Chang open the door. Chang is surprised to see Ed has indeed come, he wasn't expecting this to happen. Ed swears and turns around to leave, however Chang stops him grabbing him by the shoulder and comments that he has paid for Ed in advance. Ed replies that Chang should simply ask for a refund, however Chang discards the idea. Chang drops a hint that he knows a certain cop would be very interested about Ed and his 'side business'.
Chang walks inside and comments about Lancer, too, that he has the entrepreneur's vein and earns his commissions virtually for nothing.
While Chang pours himself a drink, he says that apparently Ed will be very busy starting New Year as there is a long line of men who wish to sleep with Ed. Ed casually looks around the fancy apartment, ignoring Chang's comment. He says instead that Chang has apparently succeeded in his life, that Chang now has everything he wanted to have in the past. Chang sips his drink confidently leaning against the counter and replies with a pointed look that 'it's still not enough for me'.
Ed asks Chang why he has summoned him and Chang simply replies that it was Ed who said to buy him, so he did. Irritated, Ed asks whether Chang is making fun of him. Chang replies with a question - whether Ed thinks that there are any idiots out there who would throw away 5000$ just for a joke? Chang goes on saying that this option is better than watching all kinds of assholes swarm and seek Ed out. Ed then asks 'And it's okay for you to do that'? Ed approaches Chang, leans with his hand against the same counter and asks whether Chang has called him here because Chang also wishes to do it.
Chang replies 'What bullshit. Cool down, think what you're spouting'. Chang then goes on saying that starting tomorrow Ed is to come to his office again and that Ed should learn Chinese language cause otherwise with his current poor language skills it will be tough for Ed. Ed doesn't understand and asks to explain what Chang is talking about. Chang readily clarifies that Ed is to come work for him (as mercy for the sake of their old friendship), to which Ed replies that he doesn't want to.
Ed thinks inwardly that Chang acts as if he held Ed's life and heart in his hands, as if Chang could do with them whatever he wished, including squeezing and crushing them.
Chang ignores Ed's negative answer and says that next week he will send some people to help Ed move things, that starting New Year Ed will live in this apartment, that Ed should cut all ties with that moronic porn actor with daughter. Chang continues saying that Ed is to remain with him for a year and that if Ed spends a year under his command - they will consider the debt paid off. Chang adds that he simply can't calmly watch how Ed sells himself to fucking men.
Ed thinks to himself sarcastically: what an incredible man Chang is - Chang was the one who pushed him towards the cliff yet constantly pretends to be all understanding and forgiving. Ed shouts in Chang's face demanding to know until when Chang is planning to continue with this charade, until Ed drops dead? That now matter what lowly life Ed will lead, he wants nothing to do with Chang.
Chang then challenges whether Ed really plans to whore himself out then and exploit his body, whether he enjoys to do that bullshit so much? Ed replies with a question 'What, does it look like I'm doing this because I enjoying it?' Ed thinks to himself that he's sick and tired of everything that Chang does.
Chang replies with 'Isn't it so?' and that in the contrary to Ed, Chang prefers to fuck instead of being fucked and that he really doesn't understand Ed [i.e. how could he do it]. Chang comments that in the video Ed looked so satisfied as if he was beside himself from ecstasy. Ed hates himself how Chang's words make him feel and snaps:
Chapter 52 ends with Ed leaning towards Chang, caging him in against the counter with both of his hands and saying 'Apparently you're not aware, but I'm an excellent fucker [top], if you're curious, should I fuck you thoroughly?'
That's it for ch 52, see you for one last summary tomorrow on the freshly released ch 53? Then you all will be fully up-to-date with what's going on with this story. :)
Hey All, part #6, my last summary for this story, which is more of a translation than summary at this point… ^^; For the record, it wasn't easy to translate this chapter, because of how immensely stupid Ed acted at the beginning and how cruel Chang acted at the end. ;_; Anyways, this chapter starts with the last frame of ch 52.
[WARNING! In case somebody is not aware what they are about to read - ch 53 is NOT a fluffy chapter at all, it continues violence and rape - DO NOT read further if it may cause triggers or trauma for you, consider carefully/use your discretion before reading further]
Ch 53- Ed leans towards Chang, cages him in with his hands and says 'Apparently you're not aware, but I'm an excellent fucker [top], if you're curious, should I fuck you thoroughly?'
Chang asks "What?" as smirking Ed takes off his own jacket and loosens his tie. Ed leans into Chang so close he could kiss the guy and adds to a bewildered Chang: "Stand on all fours." Chang retorts: "Hey, stop…" but Ed cuts him of and repeats: "I told you: on all fours" and proceeds to unbuckle Chang's belt as well as unbutton his pants.
Chang grabs Ed's hand and says, pissed: "Do not provoke me." Completely ignoring the warning, Ed merely replies: "Why? I see/seems like you're getting turned on?" Ed's fingers graze over Chang's crotch and that's were Chang snaps. He grabs Ed and pushes him against the wall with force and latches onto Ed's shoulder with his teeth. Shocked Ed merely is able to mumble '...what...' at first. Change replies: "I had told you... Not to provoke me." [The picture shows Ed shocked out of his socks, most likely realizing he had just dug his own grave.]
The scene changes to the bedroom with Chang climbing onto Ed and kissing him. Ed tries to say 'Stop' between kisses and tries to push Chang off himself - to no avail. He finally painfully bites at Chang's lip, who swears and comments that it's painful. Panting Ed says: "Have you gone mad?../Are you crazy?.." Yet Chang simply replies "Undress."
Ed pushes Chang away (who lets him) and says: "Stop mocking me." Ed walks towards the door, however Chang shuts the door down by leaning on it with his hand and asks: "What? Do you prefer to fuck with your clothes on?" Angry Ed orders Chang to move away from the door. Chang takes his sweater off and Ed, leaning against the door, asks whether Chang is seriously planning to do it. Chang simply responds that it was Ed himself who suggested it. Ed looks away and comments that he has changed his mind.
Chang leans in close enough to kiss and says: "Why? I'm so up for it, so intrigued… You said it yourself, that you're a master in this matter." Chang then grabs Ed by the neck and pushes him onto the bed again. Ed asks to let him go.
A next shot shows them both in bed, Chang watching Ed intently like a hawk eyeing his prey, leaning against the bed with his arms and between Ed's legs, while Ed has his hands on the bed and says "I told you: let me go." Instead, Chang leans, kisses/bites Ed's lover lip and says: "Continue, what you started."
Chang continues to kiss Ed's neck, his chest, nipple, as Ed tries to get him to stop with such words as 'Stop!' and 'Enough!'. Ed thinks that if Chang wished to assert his dominant position in their relationship, affirm his superiority over Ed, then he could have just hurt him somehow before things went too far. Chang starts at Ed's shoulder again and Ed says, with averted eyes: "There is no need to do such a disgusting thing in order to punish me. I will not insult/mock you anymore, so let me go." Chang lifts up for a moment to retort: "I want to do it with you."
Ed tries to push Chang by the shoulder while saying: "I ask/beg you… Whether you're joking or being serious… Not to tell me such things, don't." Chang replies above his head: "Yeah, I'm kidding. All this is not serious, sure…" Then looks into Ed's shocked eyes and continues: "On the other hand, no, I'm actually saying the truth. [not joking]" Chang leans against Ed's shoulder and whispers, his next words shocking Ed even further: "I also want to... possess you."
Ed thinks to himself that he must run away from Chang. Some fighting ensues behind the scenes and the reader is presented with the shots of broken glass on the floor and Chang standing up, holding his face with one hand and Ed's pants with the other. "Enough fighting, it's useless. Either way you won't overpower me," says Chang. Chang kicks Ed in the stomach and the fight ends with Chang grabbing Ed's hands rendering him virtually immobile.
Ed thinks to himself that it seems at some point during the fight he had punched Chang so hard with his fist that he had pulled something and now is unable to move his hand. Ed also thinks that he has never felt so powerless in his life; while the bastard [Chang] still looks mostly safe and sound.
Chang asks "Does it hurt very much?" and Ed replies angrily: "Crazy asshole, what will you do if I say that it does hurt? Will you release me?" and adds "Get… off me already!" There are no words coming from Chang anymore and Ed thinks internally that it's as if Chang waited Ed out, until his strength ran out.
The next pictures depicts Chang kiss Ed, then mount him and rape him, all through which Ed pleads and whimpers not to do this, to stop, calling Chang names and pleading that he's about to die. Chang merely replies not to move as he continues thrusting. Ed continues to plead to stop and eventually shouts that it hurts.
Chang swears at this moment (his facial expression at that moment could be interpreted in various ways - starting to feel guilt at witnessing Ed's tears yet still unable/unwilling to stop at this point? getting even more aroused than he already was? acknowledging that he likes this more than he originally expected? realizing that this is the first and last time he will have Ed under him? my list of possibilities could go on)
Ed acknowledges internally that he was hurting immensely from Chang's brutal actions, however he also acknowledges that the main problem wasn't that. His main concern was that he started to feel the usual satisfaction [from being fucked] and that fact completely crushed him emotionally. He felt as if he reached rock bottom.
The chapter ends with a trembling Ed hiding his face, lying on his side and a panting + bewildered(?) Chang; as well as a final thought for the reader: what just happened was the worst possible outcome that could have happened.
;_; This sad ending wraps-up my summaries/translation of ch 45-53 for you guys, now you are up-to-date with this story. Should somebody want to consolidate my summaries/put them all into one post or share them outside this site- please feel free to do so.
I haven't read the novel but am aware from other comments that this story is nearing its end - I can only hope that Jaxx will be allowed to put some 'happy time' for the characters before this story is finished.
(I so miss the lightheartedness of vol 1… And I would sure love to enjoy Jaxx's abslutely amazing drawing style with a smile on my face. :) )
Everyone on here discussing plot from chapter 50+ while I'm dying for continuation after 45 like, I don't even know what's happening aaah! (/TДT)/
