Lol, I got the same feeling.... I feel like I have seen this similar development already and that was how it ended....
I know this sounds crazy but what if the story ends with the uke (forgot his name) rewriting the legend and giving it a happy ending and it get's to be like a really popular book, hence causing the God to get more powerful . So at the end they can have a really cute and lovely life.
I honestly would't mind them living in the pond as a cute dragon pair tho
