i mean he was just raped off the bat in the first chapter by this manipulative "effeminate" predator. It is homophobic in the sense when this is actually a straight fear. But granted the author attempt of subverting the usual larger aggressor, doesn't actually change the reliance of sexual violence and coercion that is customary with yaoi as a whole.
Oh yes no disagreement whatsoever there. I thought about that long after I posted this. But I didn't want to make another, or change this, post because that would probably just end up confusing people (even more?). I only mentioned this (and maybe you've already seen that particular post) because another person was trying to equate homophobia with a gay guy from a different story, just because he found it pleasurable to have sex with that one woman, despite the fact that same character kept insisting that he was still gay and that the female character was the only exception. I mean from how I see it that would make gay men who married women and had sex with them when gay marriage was still illegal in almost all countries, bisexual. And I'm sure some of them could have found sex pleasurable with their wives. So then isn't that gay erasure (because of homophobia) instead of bi erasure this time?
And this situation is the one that's homophobic (no I'm not claiming that this manga is portraying the opposite... straightphobia or heterophobia or whatever you wanna call it... because there's no oppression against straight people) when it's applied to the reverse: every gay guy is straight, he just hasn't met the right woman yet (yuck, can't believe that I said that sentence with a straight face). It should NOT apply to gay guys who clearly still define themselves as gay but just have that one exception especially since I've seen so many straight people who have that one exception but are still labeled as straight. It looks a LOT like subtler homophobia from my end. I may not have experience with homophobia but I do have experience with Acephobia, jsyk, folks.
