I honestly think that Chase was never a victim. He was never naive and innocent. He was manipulating. He used things and situations in his favor. He blackmailed Jesse being Joel's watchdog. And he pretended to be Joel's watchdog but in reality was wanting to seduce Joel. It is sad but this is just a result of his actions. He was not deceived nor manipulated. Jesse openly objected to him dating Joel but Chase shamelessly chases after Joel. Chase is a Chaser. The author gave him a very fitting name.
Yknow what? In the beginning I thought it was weird that Chase liked Joel, but then I saw it more as comedic relief and decided to ignore it. However, with all that’s happening in this story rn, it just doesn’t make any sense.
Joel and Chase should not end up together.
The story started through Andy’s POV, where he sees the ‘big and bad’ Jesse and his teacher in the midst of breaking up their relationship. We learn that this teacher has been preying on the students and trying to get sexual acts from them.
We even managed to see the teacher get in a lot of trouble due to his actions.
And now we’re supposed to just ignore all of that and support a relationship between Joel (an ADULT) and Chase (a MINOR)?
What ‘age is just a number’? What ‘he’s far younger than me’ ‘oh that’s great!’ ?! This is so fcked up. Chase is a minor, period. Joel is a fucking police cop that’s really thinking of dating a minor?
Not only that, but Joel is a disgusting person. He’s hypocritical on so many levels. Jesse is right: he doesn’t even care about his own son but tries to be a ‘good dad’ to Chase? Like cmon, he was totally using Chase to feel better about himself since he’s a failure of a father to Jesse.
Chase was just a replacement for Jesse.
And now Joel loves Chase? YIKES.
Chase is a victim here. He didn’t even know that Joel was Jesse’s dad, or that Joel was using him until now.
Honestly fuck Joel, he sucks.
