my late grandpa lost his memories too after an accident. he was 60+ years old that time. but grandma (12 years younger than him) took care of him although grandpa didn't remember her.
but he fell in love with grandma again. and yes, he never got his memories back.
sadly he passed away when he was 73.
i was still a baby.
now, my grandma always bring out grandpa's picture and show me whenever i come to visit and she will tell the same stories to me.
