In this censored version it was actually attempted rape, it has lesser punishment than rape but also above sexual harrasment. Also in some countries definition of rape can varies, some countries defined rape only when the forced penetration of genitals happened.
But looking at how chiwoo defined his trauma, i think it makes sense if it was rape instead of attempted, albeit censored
I'm questioning why the author even if it's censored didn't make it more clear if that was the case because from the manga alone no outside sources your not thinking rape . especially in the actual scenes not from his memory
In ch 41chiwoo said that even when he begged jihyun repeatedly, he didn't stop...that was a gap right there cuz in the memory chiwoo was only begged him once or twice and then jihyun did stop when the glass table broke...so that might be where the censored happened and the scene was altered a bit...it can also serve as chiwoo might also omitted that part of memory due to shock..
Tho i don't understand how the mom still allowed a rapist to befriend his son then...it might be that chiwoo didn't tell his mom or the doctor who treated him that he was raped so no one examined him for that. But if I were his mom i wud've questioned why my son where so afraid to meet people or even to leave home, if he were only beaten once by jihyun. I mean that's a blaring red flag for children
There’s a panel in chapter 41 where Chiwoo has his pants off in the flashback if that helps.
But for a more long winded answer: It’s most likely due to ratings, the author wanted to keep it Shounen Ai so no explicit sex scenes of any kind. Probably the same reason they didn’t say “rape” out loud.
Or from a story point of view, left it up to the reader to work it out for themselves. I said in another post that that was a good path to take, to get an emotional impact you don’t need to go into frame frame detail, words and aftermath can be just as good. I mean, we have imaginations and I dare say we’ve all read at least one yaoi that showed a rape scene (deities know there’s enough of them) So we can fill in the rest of picture about what happened.
Granted, i agree with the outside source thing, if the author hadn’t previously confirmed it, I would have gone on thinking it was a beating (still wrong and horrible of the guy to do tho) until chapter 41. Chiwoo all but says the word when talking about it.

Chiwoo was not raped he was sexually harrassed , sexual harassment is behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances in a workplace or other professional or social situation. Rape is sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception. Both fucked up but definitely different don't mix the two that's dangerous.
