It seemed that Paulianna discovered a hard shallow surface that ran from one side of the river to the other. She said something like it was an area where to currents met and created eddys that swirled and created the hard surface.
That’s how they were able to cross. There never was a mystical beast. The man who was desperate to save his son found that path and over the years the story became a myth.
As far as I can tell it wasn't a mythical beast, but a natural phenomenon where the water was low and safe enough to cross during autumn and people made rumours that it was a mythical beast. I agree that I would have liked to of seen a little of the battle though..

I dont understand the point of the village stuff if they werent going to show the battle or at least an aspect of it. How did they get across the river? Did they use the mystical beast? Maybe I missed something but it just seems like an odd skip to me
