Tbh if I couldn't even support my kid and have him live like that i would just abort it(i know its not easy nor cheap but its for the best and she could easily get the money through prostitution)
I'm pretty sure abortion takes money and she doesn't have that. So her husband probably divorced her and took everything or she just wanted to feel the happiness of having a child with him but ended up splitting for some reason. Not everyone is open to abortion so it could've been illegal where she is.
Ik people aren't as open about it as im tbh but if you know your kid will suffer this hard at least put him in an orphan house, and about the money for the abortion she could save up for it but she probably just wanted to be happy on the sake of the poor kid

I have never heard that you have to pay to put your kid in an orphanage so idk but she could be a dick and leave him at the door, I honestly don't think she loves him all i could see is just a mother that just manipulate tf outta her kid, i mean you could see that even he can't really be comfortable with he is with her, I personally would be ashamed if my kid can't even relax when hes with me, I wouldn't even consider getting a kid if I don't have a job instead of doing prostitution because it would effect him too
