And why did the other girls say that she/he is a boy
Biologically she has the male parts, however what Ara was saying is that to call her a he and label the last chapter as shounen ai or yaoi (boys love) would be disrespectful to the character since she wants to be seen as a female. I hope this clarifies things a bit! ^_^
i'm so glad it wasn't tagged shounen ai like most stories about trans women are
Also, FYI, Hikari IS female. MTF transgender, I believe? These terms seem to change often, but at her core she is a woman and to call her a man and her story yaoi/shounen ai is actually kind of cruel. :'(
I completely respect this mangaka for that last one shot. Not many write transgendered into a story without either making them comic relief or fetishize them...it was great to see one that sympathized and shone a positive light on them.
