Quick question...

How am I supposed to pronounce "Rene"? Is it supposed to be like the name 'Renée' or like reen (green without the g)? When you think of nicknames you thing of shortened versions of names or things like 'loser', 'sweetie', or a title. Rene is obviously short for Irene, but how do you pronounce it? The nickname just seems really akward and the name is already short as is...

It's Renée. English has one of the weirdest nicknames I have ever encountered. Her full name is Irene and Rene is often short for Irene in written form but it's pronounced as Renée like the actual name.

One example is Richard, you can shorten it to Rich or Dick ( ̄へ ̄)

Or the name Oliver, it's shorten nickname form is Noel ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Yes and my problem with the René pronunciation is that...it’s the same length as her actual name. Irene; René. Like...??? So what’s the point in the nickname. That’s why I read it as REEN, weird name but makes some sense at least. TY for coming to my ted talk.
