I think you misunderstood what was said, the prince said "If you lied to me" and stopped her from saying who it was, meaning it is someone else that she's referencing not the prince himself. It was just worded a little confusingly (●'◡'●)ﾉ
I think it was his mother how did it. From seeing her in the flash backs it seem like something she would do.
