In my opinion after rereading the novel 5times already i dont feel the romance cheesy at all. Romance here doesn't the main genre so dont worry, the scenes are bearable :D

Honestly same, i read some good manga with good plot and charas till it ruined by cliche romance that had no purpose at all with the story. I hate it.
