Sorry to break your heart but chapter 5.5 was a flashback of their life before the outbreak
From what I’m asumming, they both became zombies. However they still have a mental capacity similar to a human’s. So even if they can’t recover, they still know that they love eachother :D It’s really bittersweet!

In chapter 5, in the end it shows the couple were holding hands as zombies right?? But in chapter 5.5 does it mean they have both recovered?? Omg.. Please.. My poor heart can't survive this heartbreak! Them holding hands as zombies are sweet n all but,, still.....
