Ya and its sad cuz thats such a huge part of actual BDSM, I wonder why popular depictions of it always leave that out.

Well, yeah, but even with casual partnership like what you would find in a shop, some rules are needed and followed. It's basic in any relationship, but specially in BDSM. The base of it all is the trust that a sub have in their dom. Without that, is just violence.
