Top and Bottom or not Top and Bottom? That's the question!

Why is the question of who is top and bottom so important?
I'm curious of this phenomeon, since many people who are reading BL seem to discuss this topic (sometimes quite emotinally).
For me, I like switch, because it seems natural that men (or people in general) would like to be both, top and bottom, if they could.
So is it because of the readers (I guess more females) wanting someone "sunbmissiv" to empathize with? And a "real man" to adore? That would be my guess. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I think some readers can do it because who looks "better" that way, but for me is because women makes this stories and you can feel that is a little sexist. The cute, sweet, or in this case, gay one, is always bottoming when normally gay guys switch, like they were saying that is because he "resembles a woman" the most because of his attitude. It never stop surprising me how sexist Japanese people are :/

These heteronomative and sexist stereotypes are not at all exclusive to Japan, what a weird take for you to have.

It is true that is not just exclusive to Japan. I was just signaling that they are present in nearly all of yaoi stories and being critic about that with Japanese people, since manga is from Japan. What I said wasn't a lie. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

i don't think it's that deep, it's probably just the author has a taste for the bigger, more stoic guy to bottom and it's reflected in the story. it's just a question of fictional preference. Honestly i have the same preference so i would probably do something similar if i were to write a story of this theme haha. sometimes authors just want to see the top get out-topped, and there's really nothing more to it
