You know what, Kaoru is really a selfish person. Yeah, I know he is insecure about their relationship. But Hara has tried his best to keep on going and he is fully committed to the relationship.
But Kaoru, even though he said that he did that for Hara, it just selfish. While the other are fully committed, he isnt. He still thinking about break up. Sure, you dont know what the future hold and just like he said, what if when he cut the string it wont connect to anyone and Hara will be all alone, then he just need to be there. Can he see that even without the string attached between them, Hara is really in love with him? And even when thr string connected to his fated partner, Hara didnt even sway?
