I really dislike smoking and when people smoke, it's a turn off for me (no offense to anyone who smokes) so it really bothers me in mangas. I guess it's the same for you and freshly tattooed skin ╮(￣▽￣)╭
Its not just about the infection and being a literal wound, but also the scars itself.
You can cover them up with tattoos but here they're shown as incredible deep healed flesh wounds. You can't go over all fancy with bright and soft colors. You need some heavy black.

I know that sometimes artists and authors will ignore facts to be able to tell a good story, but it bothers me that they keep having sex after tattooing and he keeps touching the places that have been tattooed. Not only is it very stupid, risk of infection and stuff, but it would be super fucking painful as well. Such a turnoff. Knowing that I just flinch at the sex scenes. Which is a shame because it's a beatiful and nice story in every other sense.
