He isn't really agressive, though he can be a little jalous and really angry at those who hurt her. He basically help her behind the scenes to realize her dream of becoming a recognized doctor and try to learn from her. When dealing with a plague of insects close to destroy a lot of crops he ask himself what she would do and it helped him to find the solution.
For a specific spoiler, Mao Mao's real father has a talent in the game called go and once created a tournament in the palace. Well, the main lead tried is best to win against him to ask for Mao Mao's hand in marriage as a reward.
