I was reading/watching articles about boy books verses girl books.

It was saying generally saying. If you take all the books and add it up. Most are male lead characters. There are female lead characters, but compared to males its far less.

The argument is most (not all) female lead stories are for females readers, but male lead characters are for everyone. This applies to movies as well.

In terms of marketing. There may be a general target audience, but they do want others to enjoy as well to make more money.

For instance "my little pony" is for little girls, but then for some reason it was a bit hit with guys called bronies... There's a huge following. It was very suprising. Although they are not the target audience. Now its widely known to be popular with guys too.

That's what I meant, it's not made only for girls, both genders read it and it doesn't mean that it's made only or specifically for girls just because mostly girls read it(▰˘◡˘▰)
