I am basing my analysis of father vampire’s actions (current and previous) as his messed up way of protecting the people he loves with a touch of clinical revenge thrown in (read over my previous posts). * When his first love, who was his wife and mother of his first son, was alive he was interested in humans but not as much as his wife (interested but ambivalent). * After his wife died, indirectly by human actions, he stopped being ambivalent towards human. He may have hated humans and wanted revenge for his wife death but more than that he wanted to protect his son (I also believe he felt a little lost after his wife died leaving a newborn). ** Even if he wanted to kill all the humans - he is aware that humans outnumber vampires and they are vampires food source, so does the next best thing to protect his loved ones - he makes himself top dog by killing, dominating, or controlling everything and everyone who opposed him.
* Before the present timeframe father vampire had only two personal relationships with humans that was mentioned - 1st was a Kin who he “let go” and 2nd was a human lover who was the mother of his second son (the rumors was she was human and his lover not his Kin). ** Gunchan is only the second Kin he has taken according to the story so far. ** Over 300 years have passed since his first son left home (I don’t believe it was mentioned how many years went by before first son left). ** Over 300 years since father vampire’s first wife died - it was implied that he and his wife where equals (he either couldn’t or wouldn’t dominate his wife). Since then there has not been anyone he couldn’t dominate (his first son might be the exception now but that is iffy).
* Present day - father vampire meets an unusual human, Gunchan, who is immune to his dominance. Something about Gunchan interested him from the beginning and his interesting only grew once he realized he couldn’t dominate him. ** I think over the years he realized that being on top is lonely and I think (at that time) the only thing he had to look forward to is someday working side by side with his oldest son who is possibly the only person that he will not be able to dominate in the future (however old habits are hard to break so he intended to make his son prove he has what it takes to rule by forcing his son to either kill him or show that his son is strong enough to protect his Kin from being used as leverage). * The two humans, Gunchan and Minhoon, through all his plans out of wack. ** Minhoon doesn’t meekly accept his place as tool and food source - but that is a minor problem. The bigger issue is Gunchan and what he is going to do with him. *** Gunchan can’t be controlled by dominance. Of corse father vampire could physically dominate Gunchan because he is stronger but that would negative the biggest reason why he finds the human interesting (maybe 300 years ago he would have physically dominated Gunchan but not now). *** Since he doesn’t want to physically dominate Gunchan, he decides to win Guncan over to his side. For the first time since his wife died, there is a person who he can’t control using dominance. This opens up new possibilities. (I am not sure if he is completely aware of the fact that in Gunchan there is the possibility of a true relationship with someone he can open up with and share his real feelings and thoughts with. Right now he is obsessed with Gunchan and wanting to win him over to his side without realizing why.)
* Father vampire has a Kin that he cares about and wants to protect but he is also completely aware of how he treated other Kins in the past. Gunchan has become his biggest weakness. He doesn’t have to worry about Gunchan being dominated by other vampires but since he is human other vampires are physically stronger than him and will target him. ** The current Kin System is under the control oh a vampire who has a grudge against him and allowing this vampire to be in charge of his Kin world be a mistake (like giving your enemy the knife to stab you in the back with latter). Not to mention that this vampire already shot his Kin. ** His son’s Kin has requested to take over the running of the Kin System and father vampire’s own Kin trust him completely. Minhoon has shown he has the power to dominate vampires and is strong enough to dominate most if not all vampires except his oldest son and himself but he doesn’t have control over his ability. Can Minhoon and his son’s protect his Kin? (He doesn’t trust them to be able to protect his Kin especially since his oldest son’s first priority is his own Kin who will be a major target if Minhoon is put in charge of the Kin System.) *** Best solution since he can’t hide the fact that he has a Kin - openly announce that he has taken a Kin by arriving to event with Gunchan who is marked by him then redirect attention away from his Kin by announcing to the vampire community that the Kin System will now be managed by Minhoon in joint cooperation with the King of the vampires.
Basically he is telling the vampire community that - yes he has a Kin (subtle acknowledgement by arriving with him and having him stay by his side but not introducing him); the management of the Kin System has changed to Minhoon who will be in charge ok the Kins from now on with his full support; and he the King will control (cough) ah manage the vampires (the enforcer) in the new Kin System. This way he can have his Kin in a system under the control of someone his Kin trusts who only has the best interests of the Kins in mind while he himself (the only one he can truly trust) ensures their protection. “You mess with them you mess with me and I don’t hold my punches!”
Biggest future problem, the entire vampire community will see father vampire’s action not as his way of protecting the ones he cares about but as another way of controlling the vampires and unlike before where he was indirectly involved now he will be directly involved with the Kin System. The vampires don’t know Minhoon or his vampire so they don’t know that they can trust them. Gunchan will be the only one who will understand the true intentions of father vampire because of his link Gunchan is able to pick up on father vampire’s emotions (Gunchan is getting better and better at reading father vampire through this link).
