To be fair, he has already explained it politically. His options really are to marry her or kill her. The princess had no real power in her country besides the hearts of some of its citizens; a peace treaty will not work. The hope in this is he has taken an interest in the individual and would prefer her as the mother of his people than to kill her despite having never met her.
