It really depends on where you are and how you get your eggs. In the US, store bought eggs already come washed and cleaned so there is no need. Lots of places skip that cleaning step before selling (there are arguments that not cleaning eggs actually makes them last longer). Farm fresh eggs can be a bit dirty.
1) for city life: I have bought store eggs that are dirty so you can never 100% trust them. Like an example do you clean your fruits and veggies? cause they come prewashed too
2) also grew up with chickens so I have cleaned eggs before using them in two occasions.
