I am looking to start a themed cafe/boba shop in California. Decorations, menu items, music and ambiance would be centralized around TV shows, anime, or fandoms (Steven Universe, anime). I was wondering if anyone had experience in the business knows where to begin and what are some things to consider. My biggest concern is whether or not I need to pay for licensing the name and characters of the show (For example, if I theme it around an anime called "One Piece," and have a drink called "The Luffy"). If I do, where do I begin and who do I need to talk to in regards to the licensing. Furthermore, if I create designs based on the shows, do I also need licensing for that too? I want to understand the legalities of such a business.
