They said that if he were to genuinely care for a woman his curse would activate (weird curse but oh well) which is why he tries not to get too close to her so that the curse doesn't activate. It's still a bit dumb and way too rushed so I didn't really get attached to any character but I'm running out of Mangas to read so ╮(￣▽￣)╭
