Look. Even Hotaru thought his attitude towards love is questionable. Hananoi staying the same way the entire time will only make him a flat character. Do you want that for the entirety of the manga? Character development is a good thing. Characters have their flaws, and this is Hananoi's. OP is right, he can be a jerk, yes, but he can change.

Basically, what I'm saying is that his attitude isn't always commendable and it's not something we should romanticize. It's a character flaw. There's always room to grow.

Yes yes I agree. A little bit of jealousy in a relationship can be cute, but too much possessiveness can cause humongous issues. It will definitely affect the relationship and the people around them.

I don't think jealousy can be cute. Jealousy mean having not enough confidence or trust. It's really hard to be jealous (even a little, I suppose I'm not the only one who went through this) or to have to deal with jealousy. It's bearable, true. It could lead to important discussions whith your special one, true. But not cute.
We learn to see this as cute because possessiveness (especially when it's from mens) is presented as true proof of love. But it's definitly not. And I hope it's what this story will try to prove. In Hananoi case, his behavior could really hurt Hotaru's feelings.
He's cute when he thinks about her first, not about how he wanted her for himself.

Love is not about possess someone else but how to protect their freedom and hapiness. Or I think this is what love should be, in my opinion.
