I suppose he felt something was off all the time and is keeping his anger in. he is super good at putting aside stuff....i mean he does not show any reaction when he is burned even though he feels the pain...so....and he is addicted to the warmth from felix...for the first time sine ever he is not freezing anymore.....addiction is serious dude....it clouds everything else....and he shows his frustration in how distant he is and how hard he takes felix in bed
that's why it's called fiction.
