What if the gray haired guy ( I am really bad with names btw) came right away and that's why he felt hurt. Maybe he was embarrassed but still asked in the morning and the fact that he said it was a great night made him realize he didn't even know how much effort he put in. That or when he said it was a great night he thought of him almost kissing another guy
