The father is a scum but he feels guilty about his son anyway (when he sees his kid getting all happy and he only wanted to get rid of the dinner problem, not to be a good father and go to the festival) - and that is the father's wound. And the child, although being beaten and abandoned, still loves his father, and even a shitty sign of interest can make the child happy.
