
I think they do acknowledge it. Or at least the characters that know the whole story do.
The main couple's families did separate them as children because of how unhealthy it their relationship was. The servants called the police on Evan for kidnapping Mervyn. Even Wally, who we can see now is not exactly normal, could see it wasn't right. And Mervyn (who is pretty dense) himself admitted that he knew that what he did as a kid was wrong and that he was not normal.
The second couple, yes. Both the siblings and Wally clearly have some mental scars from growing up without their parents. And don't seem to realize that they all need therapy LOL Hopefully things will work out for them. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
