Oooooh, that would be a great plot twist and a total separation from the usual story line.
Buuut, it won't happen since most mangaka follow the same thing. :(

Its it possible the exlover's soul got split in 2, where the prince is the side with the memories and the priest has the feelings? The priest seems to be getting a lot of screen time, but the backstory is too big to ignore.
