He was born like that. He has no emotions at all. He's all fake. When Azusa punched him something inside of him broke and Azusa is the only person who gives him emotions.
I see your point, but I feel that the author has hinted that there might be more to him. How much of his falseness is real, and how much of it is an act, him simply not knowing how to feel and not trying to learn?
