Thank you. I understand reading mangas with rape content for fun, but a lot of mangas normalized the act. I just wish at least authors would put trigger warnings on their works. Or at least treat the topic with respect and give it serious consequences instead of acting like rape is something that can be easily excused. A lot of gay men read mangas too, and some of them are young, and might not know better. I don't want people think this is how gay relationship normally works, just like i don't want straight teenage girls who watch misleading chick flicks think abusive men are attractive.
A lot society needs to be changed from what the young (er) generations are exposed to to and learn to be normal. Abuse shouldn't been seen as normal, nor should sexism and racism. There's been a lot of differing opinions regarding the recent gender stereotypes ban from British ads, but I think it's at least in the right direction.
I guess someone could argue they enjoy rape stories like how people enjoy murder/horror movies, but I just can't get myself to see their view very well. The comments for rape stories are often positive and literally outright ignore the rape, and that doesn't happen for murder/horror movies. I've never seen, "Wow, the murderer is sooooo hot!!!!! I wanna be tied up by them!!"
That's not true, though... stories with murderer/psychopath characters get those kind of comments too. For example, killing stalking. There are a lot of readers who find the MC (who is a rapist, serial killer, abuser, basically lowest of lows) hot.
As for finding rape hot... i hate it to death, but i understand that some people have certain kinks and we can't help what we like. That's why there should be trigger warnings, if not by author/translator, then at least by the online platform. Myr*adingm*nga has official "rape" tag, even "abusive lover", and it helps a lot for people who want to avoid mangas with such content. Mangago has "rape" tag but only by readers, and not all mangas with non/dubcon content are tagged accordingly, which sucks a lot.
I didn't really think about horror/murder manga, just the movies. I've heard comments about how hot the actor/actress is, but they don't just sidestep the horror/murder. Usually the comments on the way out of the theater are all about how they spilled the popcorn when the jumpscare happened or etc.
You've probably done this already, but there are a bunch of manga lists that are specifically romantic/fluff (etc) and an exclude abuse. I do that a lot of the time.
no one:
absolutely not a single soul:
yaoi authors: SEXUAL ASSAULT !!!!!!!! (≧∀≦)
like ffs, is it that hard to write a story about healthy, non fetishizing gay relationship? Considering there's way more rapey yaoi mangas than non-rapey ones, i guess it is really that hard huh...
