I think people would've sympathised with Ooshima more if we were shown scenes of Shousuke being an ass (for the forgetful: always breaks promises, selfish, ignores him when he wants to, rarely texts back, treated him like nothing, only nice when they meet in secret). They were sex friends, they were NOT in a relationship-- Shousuke said it himself and I quote, "I don't like to have a committed relationship with anyone". My eyebrows were up the roof when he said "you're dumping me". I was like, whaaaaaaaaaat??? you're not even going out!
I don't hate Shousuke as a person/character but he's definitely a seme stereotype I hate in yaoi. This guy is like the watered down version of every single teasing mean lover who ALWAYS wins in a love triangle between him and a nice guy. Isn't crazy that it's rare for the kind one to win?? Because Murai did in this story. He's the purest bean I've ever seen. God bless this man. He buys expensive wet food for his cat even though pets are not allowed his apartment.
The mangaka should've given Shousuke more screen time tbh. Aside from that attempted rape (NOT COOL BTW thank fuck he stopped), he seemed pretty harmless. It just made Ooshima look like a petty person for 'whining' about how he wasn't there for him or whatever. See, if Shousuke was given more scenes of him being an ass, that'd make people sympathise with him less. AND it would make the main pairing seem great!
What I'm not so thrilled about-- Ooshima leaning towards Murai simply because the other is kind to him. I wonder if he's only attached to him because he needed someone conveniently near to get rid of his loneliness. I'm not that angry about it though because if I were Ooshima it wouldn't take long for me to fall for someone so sweet and caring. I'm sure in the beginning he only went with Murai because he craved for the attention but midway he started falling for Murai as a person rather than a replacement of sorts.
